  • New to Flag Football? Start Here

If this is your child’s first time playing flag football, welcome! GridForce NFL FLAG is designed to be fun, beginner-friendly, and focused on learning the game. Many athletes in our league are new to football, and our coaches are committed to helping every player feel comfortable and confident.

NFL FLAG is a non-contact version of football, where instead of tackling, defenders remove a flag from the ball carrier’s belt to stop the play. This allows players to learn the game in a safe and supportive environment.

Throughout the season, players will learn the fundamentals of football including passing, catching, running routes, defensive positioning, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Coaches focus on teaching the game while making practices and games enjoyable for all skill levels.

Game days typically include a short team warm-up or practice followed by the game. In addition, many teams may hold 1–2  weekday practices, depending on the coach’s availability and team schedule.

Our goal is for every athlete to learn the game, build confidence, make friends, and have fun while being part of the GridForce football community.

If you are new to football, don’t worry — our coaches, staff, and league resources are here to help guide you throughout the season.

  • Game Day & Season Format

GridForce NFL FLAG leagues are designed to provide a fun and organized experience for players and families.

The league sets the official game schedule, including game dates, times, and field locations.

Team coaches are responsible for organizing their team and will communicate important details such as practice schedules, practice locations, and recommended game arrival times.

Some teams may hold 1–2 optional weekday practices, depending on the coach’s availability and team preferences. Practice times and locations are determined by each team’s coach.

Practice schedules are based on coach availability and team logistics, and changes or special requests for alternate practice days may not always be possible once teams are formed.

Game schedules, team communication, and league updates will be available through the TeamSnap ONE mobile app once teams have been assigned.

Specific season dates, locations, and schedules may vary by league and will be shared with families before the season begins.

  • Equipment & What Players Need

    Equipment & What Players Need

Players should bring the following items to games and practices:

    • Mouthguard (required for games and practice)

    • No-pocket athletic shorts

    • Cleats (rubber, non-metal)

Players will receive their official NFL FLAG jersey and flag belt from the league.

We also recommend bringing water and comfortable athletic clothing to all games and practices.

    Helpful Tips for Parents

    • Many families purchase extra mouthguards in bulk and keep them in their car, sports bag, or purse to avoid missing a game if one gets forgotten.

    • Shorts with pockets are not allowed in flag football because defenders may accidentally grab pockets instead of flags.

    • Bringing an extra water bottle and towel can be helpful during warmer game days.

    • Football gloves are optional, but many players choose to wear them to help improve grip when catching the ball.

    • Players should wear comfortable athletic clothing suitable for running and movement during practices and games.

    • Jerseys should be tucked in during games so the flag belt remains visible and accessible for defenders.

    • We recommend players bring a small sports bag or backpack to keep their mouthguard, water bottle, and gear organized on game day.

  • Team Communication & App Access

GridForce Football uses the TeamSnap ONE mobile app for team communication, schedules, updates, and league information. The app also provides access to features such as team messaging, schedules, live streaming, and training content.

Please note that app access will only become available once teams have been formed and you have been invited to join your child’s team.

Once your team is assigned, you will receive an email invitation to download the TeamSnap ONE app and create your account.

Please make sure the same email used during registration is used when creating your TeamSnap account so your player can be correctly connected to their team.

  • Weather & Game Cancellations

The safety of our players, families, coaches, and officials is our top priority. Games or practices may be delayed, canceled, or rescheduled due to weather, field conditions, air quality, or facility availability.

If weather conditions affect scheduled activities, the league will make a decision as early as possible and communicate updates through TeamSnap ONE and league email.

Whenever possible, the league will attempt to reschedule canceled games, though rescheduling may depend on field availability and the season schedule.

Parents should always check TeamSnap for the most current updates before heading to the field during questionable weather.

  • Code of Conduct

GridForce Football operates as a player-first program focused on creating a safe, respectful, and positive environment for all athletes.

Players, parents, coaches, and spectators are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship, respect for officials, and positive behavior at all league events.

Negative sideline behavior, harassment, abusive language, or any conduct that disrupts the experience of players will not be tolerated.

Parents and guardians are responsible for the behavior of their players and any guests they bring to league events.

GridForce Football maintains a zero-tolerance policy for behavior that threatens the safety, enjoyment, or development of our athletes. Violations may result in warnings, removal from the field or facility, suspension, or removal from the program.

  • Refund Policy

Registration fees support league operations including fields, insurance, equipment, uniforms, officials, and administrative costs. Because many of these expenses are committed before the season begins, refunds are limited once registration has been completed.

Refund requests may be considered before teams are formed or before the first scheduled game, depending on the timing and circumstances. Once the season has begun, refunds are generally not available.

Schedule conflicts, missed games or practices, team placement, or coaching assignments do not qualify for refunds.

Refund requests must be submitted in writing by email to the league for review.

You can add Registration Insurance through Vertical Insure during the registration only.

  • Financial Assistance & Volunteer Opportunities

    NFL FLAG Fund

The RCX Sports Foundation, in partnership with the National Football League, provides grants to help youth across the country participate in NFL FLAG programs. Check out the FAQ.

Individual grants may be available to assist with player costs for youth ages 6–18 who are interested in participating in NFL FLAG. Families are encouraged to review the program qualifications and FAQ before applying.

You can apply through the  2026 NFL FLAG Fund – Individual Participant Grant

If a grant is awarded, the funds will be applied directly toward the player’s registration to help ensure the athlete can participate in the program and GridForce Football will cover the remaining so there are no financial barriers.

    Volunteer Opportunities

GridForce Football offers a limited number of volunteer opportunities each season for parents or guardians who would like to support the league and help offset their child’s registration fee.

Volunteer roles may include game day support, field operations, or event assistance, and availability varies by location and season.
